Inspección Técnica de Vehículos ➪ ITV

ITV in Spain stands for Inspección Técnica de Vehículos, the Spanish technical vehicle inspection, which is similar to the Dutch MOT. It is a mandatory periodic inspection to ensure road safety and environmental standards for all motor vehicles. The frequency of the inspection depends on the age and type of vehicle.

How does ITV work?

Inspection stations: Appointments are usually made online at an authorized ITV station. You will need your vehicle registration documents and proof of insurance.


Inspection: 

During the inspection, your vehicle will be checked for crucial components, such as brakes, lights, tires, exhaust fumes, steering, bodywork, and mirrors.


Result: 

After a successful inspection, you will receive a sticker to place on your windshield indicating that the vehicle meets the requirements.


Rejection: 

If the vehicle fails, you usually have 60 days to repair the defects and have the vehicle inspected again. Inspection Frequency


Cars:
• 0-4 years: No mandatory ITV, except for imports.
• 4-10 years: Every two years.
• 10 years and older: Every year.
